Martin D. Weel
President & CEO |
|
|
Following an entrepreneurial spirit that has guided him throughout his life, Martin
Weel founded CurveNorth, Inc in 2003. An innovative technology company, Merchant
Transact is dedicated to developing advanced merchant solutions for independent
software vendors and business solutions providers. Weel currently heads the innovation,
and development at the core of CurveNorth’s offering.
A true innovator, Weel began his career running one of the largest BBS systems in the country out of his parents’ home. He was only 11. Born with a heart for technology and a brain for business, his intensity and focus never waned. Shortly after high school, Weel worked a short time for Microsoft Corporation helping to develop MS Market, an internal procurement system for Microsoft employees. It wasn’t long before Weel’s entrepreneurial spirit took hold, and at the age of 22, Weel started n-Tier software where he developed procurement solutions for J Walter Thompson and Xerox, where it won the application of the year. During this time, Weel came across an opportunity to streamline the paper business. Employing his knack for identifying opportunities, Weel developed a revolutionary supply chain solution for the printing industry. This software would serve as the basis for Weel’s new company NexTier Solutions. In 1999, Weel merged his latest venture with NexTier Solutions, to focus on improving the supply chain in the paper industry. There he served as chief executive officer and employed his programming expertise to design and develop EZ-Suite, a unique, web-based collaborative e-commerce solution targeted specifically to the global paper, printing, catalog, and magazine publishing industry. When the product was complete, companies such as Lands’ End, RR Donnelley, and International Paper were just a few of the global customers using the supply chain solution. By 2002, NexTier Solutions had grown to 34 employees. Weel, wanting to stay true to innovation, felt it was the proper time to sell to a company who could take his creation where it needed to go. So, the sale to International Paper ensued. NexTier was then spun out as a separate business group, and still runs today as an independent company owned by International Paper. Not long after, Weel was back on the hunt for an opportunity that would quench his thirst for innovation. To that end, he founded CurveNorth with the mission of driving down costs and improving throughput by automating the complex work-flow and paperwork requirements associated with boarding and managing merchants. Marty Weel has a wonderful family with two children, enjoys mountain biking, developing software, raquetball, snow boarding, and the great outdoors. |
